I finally went and bought some MIDI controllers. See below…

I’m running the Akai LPD-8 into my laptop to trigger samples through Serato for my DJ sets, and I’m using the Alesis Q49 for studio production. I got both of them for $150 brand new. Not a bad buy…

I was looking at getting the Akai MPK mini being that it has both pads and a keyboard, but I decided to go for two separate controllers to do the same thing. This decision has definitely paid off. I highly recommend the LPD-8. It’s a fantastic piece of hardware and only costs $70.

Boxee Box: Dumbest thing ever or home media holy grail?

D-Link and Boxee have teamed up to make this ridiculous looking thing, the Boxee Box. Essentially it’s the Apple TV of Boxee. The first thing I notice is the atrocious design. They really overdid the abstract aesthetic of the hardware. It looks more obnoxious than edgy. Regardless, Boxee is a fantastic media solution which I use at home. Thankfully, it has built in wireless-N functionality and comes with a sleek remote with a full QWERTY keyboard on the flipside. The outputs feature HDMI, optical audio, and composite audio. The unit also features an ethernet port, 2x USB 2.0 ports, and an SD media slot.

At $199, it’s a pretty good buy when compared to its competitors. I would say that Roku just doesn’t stack up to the robust Boxee interface. Apple TV simply doesn’t have enough features for the type of device that it is and the market that it’s in. iTunes is the Mecca for streaming media, but Apple TV doesn’t allow you to access content from groups such as Revision3 and Hulu.
